Dickey Betts - Stormy Monday Cover
Переглядів 10 тис.Рік тому
Dickey Betts played a near perfect solo on the blues chestnut "Stormy Monday" at Fillmore East. Incredible dynamics, tone, articulation, phrasing, etc. Here's my take on it. Thanks to Kemper amps for helping me get the tone. The signal path was my 2018 R9 Les Paul with stock pickups directly into the Kemper. I found a profile called “plexi cranked” from a user named “And44” that sounded fanta...
Jerry Garcia Tones On A Kemper Profiler

Sorry I've been MIA for a while now folks. I promise I'm in the midst of getting the channel back up and running! Here's some vintage Jerry Garcia tones to tide you over while I'm creating more content. This was done on a Kemper profiler using a '64 Fender Twin profile. I just messed with the knobs til I got the tone pretty close. Thanks to HighCountryGuitar for the backing track! The solo is f...

Sunday Morning With A 1934 National

If you've never played a real National Resophonic instrument, you should definitely put that on your bucket list. It's an experience like no other. This particular specimen is a 1934 Duolian that was recently resorted by Carter Vintage in Nashville. It belongs to my good friend Rick who was kind enough to let me babysit it for a while. It's strung with heavy gauge flatwounds, has gobs of patina...

Dickey Betts' most beloved instrumental, "Jessica", performed by Willie Williams of Allman Brothers Tribute band SKYDOG. I found the excellent backing track on guitarbackingtrack.com, but I don’t know who the creator is. If you know who created the track, please leave a comment so I can give credit. Equipment used: 2018 R9 Les Paul w/stock pickups 2002 SG with Lindy Fralin pickups 1964 Fender P...

Quarantine Duets - Ep.#4 - "Ricochet"

When I started playing the mandolin in 1996 it was entirely because of a longhaired California hippie named David Grisman. I had heard The David Grisman Quintet’s debut album from 1977 during my freshman year at Virginia Tech and it forever changed my life. That was my first exposure to Grisman’s self-styled “Dawg music”, an eclectic blend of bluegrass, gypsy jazz and traditional Jewish music, ...

When I was 11 years old, I went on a Boy Scout camporee with my Dad. On the way home we stopped at a truck stop for lunch and he bought me three "Greatest Hits" tapes, all of which had a huge impact on my impressionable young brain: Jim Croce, Ray Stevens, and Roger Miller. All were great, said Dad, but “Roger Miller is The King and don’t you forget it.” And I didn’t. I’ve been a huge Roger Mil...

I've known Brian "Honey" Bunn since about 1999 or so when he was a fledgling young guitar prodigy in Blacksburg, VA. He's since gone on to accomplish feats in the music industry that I could only dream of. Now a fixture of the Nashville scene as an influential songwriter, producer and engineer, Brian is also a master of just about any instrument he decides to pick up. It's an honor to call him ...

Dickey Betts' Greatest Guitar Solo of All Time
I saw Dickey Betts in 1973 at Watkins Glen, NY... 3/4 million people were there!
One of my all-time favourite albums since it was out. ABB at fillmore east is among the best live alums ever.
👏🏻👏🏻🎶🤩💯🏆😍🎵⭐️✨ Amazing!! Wonderful!! Thank you soooo much!!!
Im back. I just stopped in. I saw your short again and love your playing. . . it reminds me so much of Duane. anyway I just stopped in to take another listen. Very compelling my friend. Still playing slide?
Wow! You captured the feel and tone! Great job, Willie!
Blue skys is the top 5 rock and roll song. I saw Dicky with his band in a bar in Point Pleasant NJ May be 15 or twenty years ago. What was this kind of talent doing there. Alcohol is the worst drug
ok,cool,not sure felt iy diff\\
Great. Some detail I’ve been missing for about……50 odd years! Thanks.
Happy to help! 🍑
What guitar is that
‘62 Custom Tele reissue
With all of his struggles, I'm glad the lord gave him 80 years.
unbei,,,,,,,,, great stuff
I have seen Dickey play parts that I assumed were Duane and vice versa. I try to attain that tone and sustain with my rig and occasionally approach it, but I'm still using my brain and fingers.😏
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
I have been taken to the woodshed and I am very happy to see
I’m sure there’s a little more than that but it’s a lot more than I thought you were great brother and I appreciate it
So true ❤
Thx ❤
Rest Easy and play on DB ❤🙏🎶🎸✌️
Well done! Love the track and of course this not bending like crazy guitar solo
Learned most from 9 for sure. Beeeeeyouteeful stuff
Dickey Betts One of the greatest second guitarist ever, but Duane Allman was the virtuoso. He's was being humble. .. an interviewer ask jimmi Hendrix after a show, how does it feel to be the best guitarist on earth. He said I don't know you'll have to ask Jerry. Same thing. All are grateful 🍄
You are a glue sniffer, Dwayne was INSANE
Agreed, any closer. Very beautifully done. I’m impressed.
Great playin', Dude!!!!! Sounds awesome. ❤️🎶🎸🤟
Guitar Legend!
Excellent work!
Without a doubt the best version I have heard- so smooth!
First, buy a '59 or '60 LesPaul, then, get a slide. The rest should be easy....
Im here about a month after Forrest had passed. Im proud to have shared a name with such a man.
I've been playing for over 50 years now (seriously dating myself here) and of course have had many influences, but no single song changed/helped my playing more than Blue Sky.
Nice fiddle💰
It sounds like Dicky Betts playing the slide guitar.
Great Southern a pure southern rockband I was fortunate enough to see their concert
Superb!
Nice, one of Betts' finest moments! It's all in the feel.Rock on...🎸🏴☠
Hey there I posted the same section from the original LATFE album, upon Dickie's passing, and found this post when some subscribers were insisting it was Duane. Glad to find this, and I should've posted long before. Thank you, nice to find communities of like minded individuals...🎸🏴☠
Sweet. I always check out covers of this solo because it's always been one of my faves too. Most are a shade rough. This one's tight. Good ear and great jam
My thought about the two of them was always this… Duane would circle around the hornets nest and decide where the best place to attack would be and Dickie would just stick his head right in the middle of it. It’s like Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane playing with Miles Davis. They are dissimilar players with similar talent…. But it is definitely a joy to listen to them wind up! I saw them three times before Duane died and they just fed off each other and that was the secret.
I wonder if Duane knew the technical description of what he was playing, or if he learned them by ear, and just played.
I could watch this All day!!
Jerry Garcia has so many better solos ;!
Yeah man. This post is about *Dickey’s* best. ✌️
On Apr 18, 2024 Dickey Betts joined those who had preceeded him in death....and heaven has another AWESOME musician. Godspeed Dickey honey, thank you for the music & memories. You will be missed and always remembered!❤
It's amazing how much of this is blues once you slow it down. Similar to how Robben Ford fuses blues and jazz so effortless, I think Tony could do the same with bluegrass and his other influences. These players have gotten to a level where they just obliterate the rules and barriers, yet they know the rules well enough to remain rooted in a structure/tradition - making their music both fresh and familiar.
Tone!
Great concerts I was fortunate to have been at 6. The sound lives on! Check out Tadashi Trucks band, & Dickys son Duane !@@##!!!
I enjoy how Dickey Betts brings in deep hill country and bluegrass themes to his blues based solos and song writing. I guess that’s just how it was done to create the country rock sound. Looking back with musicians like Dickey on the scene it was 100% predictable. I want to thank him and all the other innovators who played honestly what came to them from their traditions when they were first drawn to rock and role. Now in its full splendor for some time, country rock moves and excites music lovers all over the world with such hot, lovely, bluesy and lyrical American sounds. They accomplished that musical achievement by integrating Black and White American traditional music. They did it playing on the road where they had to manage the challenges of where to stay and where to eat when social conditions split the bands up by race during meal and bed times. The music they brought along was awkward in segregated venues but at integrated venues it was embraced by the kids finding a whole lot more in common musically that got them increasingly hanging out together where they got to know and appreciate each other better. Country rock greatly improved the quality of race relations in America, which in turn further enriched and energized the sound. Dickey and friends knew what they were doing and by doing it gave us a better world to live in. RIP Dickey, thanks for the music.
Right, best for people with the shortest short term memories on the plantet. Jimmi Hendrix.
So much joy and inspiration from this groundbreaker, RIP Dickey Betts.
Why do you even go too wakos an spen $400 when you could've bought a 2 nice pair of Nikes
Duane said it best when he said, "I'm the famous one but Dickey's the guitar player." Who would know better than him?
